A Better Hospital Visit Starts at Home: MediSites360 at the PEN Awards 2026

MediSites360 was named a finalist in the Digital and Technology Innovation for Experience category for its work with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

On 1 October 2026, the MediSites360 team joined healthcare professionals, patient experience leaders and innovators at the Picker Experience Network Awards, held in the Great Hall at the University of Birmingham.

Receiving our finalist certificate was a proud moment for everyone involved in developing and delivering the MediSites360 solution.

The Picker Experience Network Awards recognise individuals, teams and organisations working to place people at the centre of care and improve the experience of health services.

MediSites360 was named a finalist in the Digital and Technology Innovation for Experience category for our project:

The Alder Hey Virtual Tour: enabling patients to experience the journey of their hospital visit before they arrive, reducing pre-visit anxiety.

Being recognised alongside organisations delivering important work across health and care was a significant milestone for MediSites360. More importantly, it brought attention to a part of the patient journey that can still be overlooked: the time between receiving an appointment and arriving at the hospital.

One of the clearest themes from the awards was that successful innovation is not about technology for its own sake.

The strongest projects were grounded in genuine patient needs.

They improved communication, removed barriers, supported inclusion and made services easier to understand or access.

That principle sits at the centre of MediSites360.

A digital front door should not create another complicated system for patients or staff. It should make the journey simpler.

Patients should be able to see where they are going before leaving home.

Once they arrive, they should be able to use clear, real-world route guidance to reach the correct department.

The technology should sit quietly around the patient journey, providing information and reassurance at the point they are needed.

The awards gave us the opportunity to meet teams approaching patient experience from many different perspectives, including communication, personalised care, accessibility, healthcare environments, partnership working and digital innovation.

We left Birmingham encouraged by the shared focus on practical improvements that patients can genuinely feel.

Congratulations to Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, winner of the Digital and Technology Innovation for Experience category, and to CardMedic and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, who were named runner-up.

We were pleased to be recognised alongside them and the other finalists.
