Blossom House Virtual Tour
Bringing Care Pathways & Spaces to Life Across an NHS Facility
The Vision
Blossom House — part of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital within the Liverpool NHS Trust — is a dynamic healthcare environment with complex spatial flows and multiple user groups, from patients and families to clinical teams and support staff.
The Trust wanted a solution that would:
- Enhance understanding of the facility layout and the services available
- Reduce pre-visit anxiety for the visiting children and young adults.
- Support wayfinding and orientation before arrival.
- Provide a digital reference for staff and stakeholders.
- Improve confidence, comfort and safety for all visitors.
The Solution
Medisites360 designed and delivered a fully immersive 3D virtual tour of Blossom House that replicates the real-world environment in astonishing detail.
This digital twin:
- Offers a web-accessible virtual walkthrough
- Allows users to explore key clinical and public areas
- includes digital signage aligned with real-world navigation.
- It can be shared via URL link on patient emails as a standalone experience or embedded within the NHS Trust’s digital platforms
The Goal
For Alder Hey and the Liverpool NHS Trust, this virtual tour was designed to deliver:
Enhanced Patient & Family Confidence
Give patients and carers a sense of place and reduce anxiety through pre-visit exploration.
Reduced Wayfinding Demand
Support staff by lowering routine directional queries and improving spatial cognition across the site.
A Long-Term Digital Asset
Create a platform that can be reused for orientation, training, planning, communication and compliance initiatives.
How We Made It Happen
1. On-Site Capture & Mapping
Using the latest Matterport spatial capture cameras we captured the entire building. We captured on a weekend while it was closed so as not to disturb any appointments or clinics
2. 3D Digital Twin Construction
Using that input data, we built an optimised, light-weight 3D model suitable for web delivery without sacrificing detail.
3. Tour Logic & Navigation Design
We added our proprietary overlay software to add digital signage, videos and information points.
4. Web Deployment & Testing
The tour was deployed as a responsive, browser-based experience accessible across devices without any app downloads.
5. Iterative Refinement with NHS Stakeholders
We worked closely with Alder Hey staff to refine navigation, labels, and tour hotspots so that the experience matches how the facility is actually used.
